Every Veteran Deserves to Be Remembered
Setting Priorities
One of the first initiatives undertaken during Historic Lutz Cemetery’s renewed stewardship was registering the cemetery as an official Wreaths Across America participating location.
At the time, our records indicated that fewer than 190 veterans were resting within the cemetery, and approximately 190 wreaths were placed during our first Wreaths Across America observance.
But as our cemetery mapping and records project continued, something important happened.
We began finding veterans we didn't previously know were here.
Some did not have traditional veteran headstones. Others emerged as we reviewed, verified, and connected historical burial records to individual gravesites. With each discovery, another veteran became part of the story we were working to preserve.
By 2025, we honored more than 200 veterans with wreaths.
In 2026, we will place 223 wreaths.
Each wreath represents an individual—not simply a number. A person who served our country, lived a life, belonged to a family, and became part of the history entrusted to Historic Lutz Cemetery.
And when each wreath is placed, we honor an important Wreaths Across America tradition:
We say their name.
Because remembrance is more than placing a wreath.
It is making sure they are never forgotten.
We Say Their Name
At Historic Lutz Cemetery, we believe a veteran is never truly forgotten as long as their name is still spoken. Four times each year, we intentionally say the names of the veterans resting here aloud—remembering each one as an individual who lived, served, sacrificed, and left a story behind. Saying their name is a simple act of remembrance, but a powerful one. We remember the name. We honor the service. We keep the memory alive.
More Than Placing a Wreath
When placing a wreath, we encourage each volunteer to pause, read the veteran’s name, and say it aloud.
It is a simple act, but an important one. The wreath will eventually be removed. The veteran’s name—and the life and service behind it—deserve to be remembered.

Sponsor a Veteran's Wreath
Every veteran resting at Historic Lutz Cemetery deserves to be remembered with a wreath. Sponsoring a wreath helps make that possible and supports the Wreaths Across America mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach.
Volunteer With Us
Wreaths Across America Day is meaningful because of the people who come together to remember. We invite individuals, families, veterans, youth groups, civic organizations, and neighbors of all ages to join us at Historic Lutz Cemetery as we place remembrance wreaths on our veterans' graves. Volunteers are encouraged to pause at each gravesite, say the veteran’s name aloud, and take a moment to honor the life and service behind that name. Whether you place one wreath or many, your participation helps ensure that those who served our country continue to be remembered.
Remember. Honor. Teach.
Wreaths Across America is about more than one December afternoon.
It is about remembering those who served, honoring their sacrifices, and teaching the next generation why their service matters.
At Historic Lutz Cemetery, that mission has become part of our own commitment to preserving the stories of the veterans entrusted to our care.
223 veterans. 223 wreaths. 223 names worth remembering.
