Sacred Ground Since 1911
Nestled in the heart of Lutz, Florida, the Lutz Cemetery stands as a timeless testament to the community’s history, honoring generations of families who have called this area home. Established in 1911 on land donated by C.E. Thomas, president of the North Tampa Land Company, this cemetery has grown from a small burial ground into a cherished historical landmark.
The first burial took place in 1914, when Mr. Nims was laid to rest, marking the beginning of a century-long tradition of remembrance. Today, the cemetery is owned and operated by the American Legion Post 108 of Land O’ Lakes, FL, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
A Cemetery Steeped in Tradition
The Lutz Cemetery is more than just a burial ground—it is a living archive of the town’s past. Walking through its rows, visitors can find headstones dating back over a century, each with its own story. Veterans from The Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam rest alongside pioneers, farmers, and community leaders, creating a tapestry of Lutz’s heritage.
One of the most touching traditions at Lutz Cemetery is the annual Memorial Day service, hosted by the American Legion Post 108. This event brings together families, veterans, and local residents to honor those who served their country and contributed to the community.
