People often ask why we take on so many ambitious projects. The answer is simple: we are driven by servant hearts. Every member, volunteer, and supporter involved with Lutz Cemetery shares a deep commitment to serving others, preserving history, honoring veterans, and creating a place of peace and remembrance for generations to come. We believe a cemetery should be more than a final resting place—it should be a reflection of the community's values, a place where stories are preserved, sacrifices are remembered, and families can find comfort and connection.
None of these projects are funded by large corporations or government programs. They become reality because dedicated volunteers invest countless hours planning, fundraising, maintaining the grounds, and caring for the families we serve. Through community events, donations, sponsorships, and the responsible development of available burial sites, we work tirelessly to reinvest every possible dollar back into the cemetery. From Legacy Lane and Guardians Gate to the Veterans Honor Garden and Whispering Garden, each project is a labor of love built by people who believe in leaving something better for the next generation than what was left for them.
At its core, our mission is one of stewardship. We are simply caretakers of this historic place for a brief moment in time. The improvements we make today will serve families, veterans, visitors, and our community for decades to come. That is why we continue to dream, continue to work, and continue to build—not for ourselves, but for those who came before us and those who will follow after us.

Veterans' Honor Garden
The 81K Project: A Promise to Never Forget
Lutz Cemetery is proud to launch the 81K Project, a solemn commitment to honor the more than 81,000 American service members who remain listed as Missing in Action and to provide a final resting place for unclaimed veteran cremains discovered throughout our nation. Inspired by the belief that no veteran should be forgotten, the 81K Project supports the important work of the Missing in America Project, whose volunteers work tirelessly to locate, identify, and secure military honors for abandoned and unclaimed veterans.
At the heart of this mission is the planned Veterans Honor Garden, a place of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude. The garden will feature the American Flag, the flags of every branch of the United States Armed Forces, the POW/MIA Flag, and the Florida State Flag. An eternal flame will burn in honor of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the tens of thousands of American heroes who never returned home. Military monuments, commemorative landscaping, stone seating areas, and memorial features will create a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can honor the sacrifices of our nation's veterans and learn the stories of those who served.
Every veteran entrusted to the 81K Project will be interred with the dignity and respect they earned through their service. Each interment will be conducted with full military honors by the dedicated Honor Guard of American Legion Post 108, ensuring that these heroes receive the farewell they were denied in life. Whether they served in wartime or peacetime, whether they have family present or not, they will not make their final journey alone.
The Veterans Honor Garden and 81K Project are ambitious undertakings, and we cannot accomplish them without the support of our community. The Whispering Garden
A Place of Peace, Reflection, and Remembrance
The Whispering Garden is one of Lutz Cemetery's most exciting future projects—a beautiful elevated scattering garden designed to provide families with a dignified, peaceful, and affordable way to honor their loved ones.
Nestled among the shade of towering trees, the Whispering Garden will feature elevated wooden walkways leading to a large circular deck surrounded by nature. Families will be able to reserve the garden for private memorial ceremonies, creating a quiet and meaningful space to celebrate a life well lived. A separate memorial deck will feature a beautiful granite Memory Wall where families may choose to honor their loved ones with engraved names, dates, photographs, and personal messages.
The Whispering Garden is being designed as a place where grief can find comfort, memories can be shared, and families can gather in a natural setting that celebrates life, love, and legacy.
Why Scattering Gardens Matter
Across America, families are increasingly choosing cremation as an alternative to traditional burial. While cremation offers flexibility, many families struggle with what comes next. Far too often, cremated remains are stored indefinitely in closets, garages, or spare rooms because there is no dedicated place for remembrance.
Scattering gardens provide an answer.
A scattering garden offers families a permanent place to visit, remember, and reflect. Unlike scattering ashes in a private location that may later become inaccessible, a dedicated memorial garden ensures that future generations will always have a place to reconnect with the memory of their loved ones.
The Whispering Garden will provide that sacred space for our community—a place where families can honor those they love while surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Funeral and burial costs continue to rise across the country, placing a tremendous financial burden on many families. Traditional funeral services can cost thousands of dollars, and even simple burial arrangements are often beyond the reach of those facing unexpected loss.
At Lutz Cemetery, we believe that every person deserves to be remembered with dignity and respect, regardless of financial circumstances.
The Whispering Garden is being developed with affordability in mind. By offering a beautiful and meaningful alternative to traditional burial, we hope to provide an option that allows families of all backgrounds to honor their loved ones without the overwhelming expense often associated with end-of-life arrangements.

Honoring Those Who Served Beside Us
For generations, service animals have stood faithfully at our side. They have guided the blind through darkness, comforted veterans carrying the invisible wounds of war, assisted individuals living with disabilities, searched for the missing, protected law enforcement officers, and served alongside our military on battlefields around the world. They ask for nothing in return but our trust, companionship, and love.
These remarkable animals are more than working partners—they are heroes, caregivers, protectors, and family members. For many people, a service animal represents independence, safety, healing, and hope. They help children navigate challenges, provide comfort during trauma and anxiety, and offer unwavering loyalty during life's most difficult moments. Their impact on the human experience is profound and often impossible to measure.
Yet when their service comes to an end, there are very few places dedicated to honoring their lives and contributions.
That is why Lutz Cemetery is creating Guardians Gate.
A First-of-Its-Kind Tribute
Guardians Gate is envisioned as a beautiful memorial columbarium dedicated exclusively to service animals. Located along the western boundary of Lutz Cemetery, the project will feature elegant faux wrought-iron fencing atop a stone wall, landscaped memorial walkways, and columbarium niches designed to provide a permanent resting place for these faithful companions.
At the heart of the project will stand a monument honoring the service animals who spent their lives protecting, assisting, comforting, and serving mankind. Their watch may have ended, but their legacy will continue.
We call it Guardians Gate because even after they are gone, these loyal companions continue to watch over us—in our memories, in our hearts, and in the lives they forever changed.
To our knowledge, few if any cemeteries in the nation offer a dedicated memorial and columbarium space specifically for service animals. Guardians Gate is more than a memorial project; it is a statement that the service, sacrifice, and devotion of these animals deserves lasting recognition.
No Hero Left Behind
One of the most important goals of Guardians Gate is ensuring that financial hardship never prevents a deserving service animal from receiving a dignified final resting place.
Through donations, sponsorships, and community support, Lutz Cemetery plans to establish a Guardians Grant Program that will provide no-cost interment opportunities for qualified service animals whose owners may not otherwise be able to afford memorialization.
Owners will be able to apply for grant assistance, allowing their beloved companion to receive a permanent place of honor among others who dedicated their lives to serving humanity.
Because service animals spend their lives helping others, we believe our community should come together to help them in return.

Legacy Lane & Patriots' Way
Creating a Legacy for Generations to Come
Among the most transformative projects underway at Lutz Cemetery is the development of Legacy Lane and Patriots' Way, a beautiful memorial corridor that will honor loved ones, celebrate community support, and help secure the future of the cemetery for generations to come.
Stretching approximately 200 feet along the cemetery's northern boundary, Legacy Lane takes advantage of one of the property's most beautiful natural features—a majestic row of mature oak trees that have quietly watched over Lutz Cemetery for decades. Through careful planning and stewardship, the area between these magnificent trees has been cleared and prepared for the installation of a series of columbaria designed to provide dignified memorial options while preserving the natural beauty of the landscape.
Each columbarium will be constructed of elegant gray granite and feature polished black granite niche fronts. Because every section of Legacy Lane is unique, the columbaria will vary in size and configuration. Some locations will accommodate intimate family columbaria with four niches, while larger spaces may support double-sided columbaria offering up to sixty-four niches. Other areas will feature single-sided structures designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Together, these memorial structures will create a peaceful avenue of remembrance nestled beneath the canopy of the oaks.
Patriots' Way
A Path Built by the Community
Running the entire length of Legacy Lane will be Patriots' Way, a brick memorial walkway that will connect visitors to the columbaria while creating a lasting tribute to those who have served our nation, our community, and our families.
Patriots' Way will be constructed using commemorative engraved bricks available for purchase by individuals, families, organizations, and businesses. Each brick will provide an opportunity to honor a veteran, remember a loved one, celebrate a family name, recognize a community organization, or leave a personal message that will become a permanent part of the cemetery's history.
Every brick purchased will help fund ongoing improvements and future projects at Lutz Cemetery, including the Veterans Honor Garden, Guardians Gate, the Whispering Garden, and other preservation initiatives. In this way, Patriots' Way becomes more than a walkway—it becomes a pathway of support built by the very community it serves.
