Monument and Marker Specifications & Requirements
All monuments, markers, and memorials placed at Lutz Cemetery must meet the following guidelines to ensure the safety, maintenance, and aesthetic integrity of our grounds. Please review these carefully before purchasing or installing a monument.
General Requirements
All monument placements must be pre-approved by cemetery staff.
Only permanent, weather-resistant materials are allowed (e.g., granite, bronze).
No homemade markers may be installed.
Temporary markers must be registered with cemetery staff and expected replacement date recorded.
Size Guidelines*
Single Grave
- Upright Monument: Max 30" high x 24" wide x 12" deep
- Flat Marker: Max 24" wide x 12" deep
Double Grave
- Upright Monument: Max 36" high x 48" wide x 14" deep
- Flat Marker: Max 48" wide x 14" deep
Cremation Only Sites
Flat Marker only: Max 24" wide x 12" deep
Foundations
- All upright monuments require a concrete foundation, installed by an approved contractor.
- Foundation dimensions must be at least 2 inches wider and longer than the base of the monument.
Inscription Guidelines
- Inscriptions must be respectful, appropriate, and free of offensive or controversial language.
- No advertisement, political messages are permitted.
Installation & Maintenance
- Installation must be scheduled with cemetery management.
- Only licensed professionals or approved installers may place monuments.
- The family is responsible for future maintenance or repairs of the monument.
- Lutz Cemetery will take reasonable care of all monuments by:
- Keeping land growth away from the monument
- Cleaning the surface of the monument periodically to remove discoloration.
Prohibited Items
- Glass, ceramic, shells, artificial turf, and breakable decor are not allowed.
- No fencing, curbing, or enclosures around graves or monuments.
- No permanent lighting without written approval.
Approval Process
To submit a monument for approval, please provide:
- A drawing or photo of the design
- Exact dimensions and material type
- Inscription text and layout
