About Historic Lutz Cemetery

From our Family to Yours

Meet Nate Southwick, Historic Lutz Cemetery Grounds Manager

Nate Southwick serves as Grounds Manager for Historic Lutz Cemetery, overseeing the care, maintenance, and day-to-day activities across more than seven acres of cemetery grounds. Simply put, very little happens on the grounds without Nate's involvement.

Nathan personally manages the extensive work required to keep Historic Lutz Cemetery peaceful, beautiful, and respectful. From mowing, edging, and weed control to clearing fallen limbs, managing anthills, maintaining landscaping, and respectfully retiring and removing older floral arrangements, he provides consistent hands-on care that families and visitors see throughout the cemetery.

His responsibilities extend well beyond routine maintenance. Nate coordinates work taking place on the grounds, assists with cemetery projects and improvements, supports services and special events, and is the person the team can count on whenever something needs to be moved, repaired, prepared, cleaned up, or simply handled. Around the cemetery, Nate is known as the one who does much of the "heavy lifting" - both literally and figuratively - and is always there when the team needs him.

Nathan also works with young people participating in cemetery volunteer and educational projects, helping teach the importance of caring for sacred ground, respecting those who came before us, and taking pride in serving the community.

Having served for more than 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, Nate brings a particularly meaningful perspective to the cemetery's commitment to veterans. He takes special care in maintaining the gravesites and surrounding grounds of the veterans interred at Historic Lutz Cemetery, understanding personally the significance of honoring their service.

For Nate, maintaining Historic Lutz Cemetery is more than groundskeeping. It is stewardship - caring for sacred ground, respecting every person entrusted to our care, and making certain that families always find a place worthy of remembrance.

A Place For Veterans To Call Home.

The American Legion Post 108 is proud to call Plantation Palms Golf Club Home. The management and staff of this premier semi-private golf course have embraced our Post with open arms offering a free social membership to all American Legion Post 108 members.

Since its founding, American Legion Post 108 in Land O' Lakes has proudly served veterans and the Lutz community. As caretakers of historic Lutz Cemetery since 2024, we maintain this sacred ground with reverence, ensuring proper tribute to veterans and local families. Our members - veterans from all branches of service - uphold the Legion's mission of patriotism, remembrance, and community service.

Beyond cemetery stewardship, Post 108 actively supports veterans' welfare, youth programs, and patriotic initiatives. We host memorial ceremonies, provide veteran assistance resources, and foster camaraderie among those who served. The Legion's commitment to "Veterans Strengthening America" is evident in our cemetery preservation, community outreach, and advocacy for those who have defended our nation.

We invite all eligible veterans to join our ranks and community members to support our mission of honoring service and preserving local history.
