Meet Don Hinst, Commander Post 108
Don Hinst, Commander of The American Legion Post 108, is the driving force behind the transformation and ongoing stewardship of Lutz Cemetery. What began as a volunteer effort—repairing the roof of the interment building, laying pavers, and cleaning up the grounds—quickly grew into something far greater under Don's leadership. His vision and commitment led to the complete transfer of Lutz Cemetery into the care of Post 108, ensuring it would be preserved and honored as a sacred part of the Lutz Community.
With a deep respect for service and sacrifice, Don has placed a strong emphasis on honoring the veterans interred at Lutz Cemetery. He has been instrumental in guiding the cemetery's future with thoughtful projects and enhancements, all while staying true to its history and inclusive spirit. Alongside The American Legion Post 108 Honor Guard led by Sergeant at Arms Bob Szymanowski, Don ensures that every veteran laid to rest receives full military honors, reflecting his unwavering dedication to those who served.
Don's leadership reflects not just a vision for what the cemetery can become, but a heartfelt commitment to honoring the past, serving the present, and preparing for the future.

Since its founding, American Legion Post 108 in Land O' Lakes has proudly served veterans and the Lutz community. As caretakers of historic Lutz Cemetery since 2024, we maintain this sacred ground with reverence, ensuring proper tribute to veterans and local families. Our members - veterans from all branches of service - uphold the Legion's mission of patriotism, remembrance, and community service.
Beyond cemetery stewardship, Post 108 actively supports veterans' welfare, youth programs, and patriotic initiatives. We host memorial ceremonies, provide veteran assistance resources, and foster camaraderie among those who served. The Legion's commitment to "Veterans Strengthening America" is evident in our cemetery preservation, community outreach, and advocacy for those who have defended our nation.
We invite all eligible veterans to join our ranks and community members to support our mission of honoring service and preserving local history.
